Starting a troop on MyTroop

How to set up your troop or pack yourself at mytroop.org/start — account, email confirmation, unit details, card — and what happens after.

Anyone can start a troop or pack on MyTroop at mytroop.org/start. It takes about five minutes, works on your phone, and you don't have to wait for anyone to approve it.

The four steps

  1. Create your account. Use Continue with Google, or an email address and password. If you're already a parent in another MyTroop troop, sign in with that account — you don't need a new one.
  2. Confirm your email. We send a link to your address; open it on any device. Google accounts skip this step. Didn't get it? Check spam, then use Resend email (you can resend once a minute, a few times in all).
  3. Tell us about your unit. Troop or pack, unit number, name, council (optional), time zone, and your web address — the part before .mytroop.org. You can change everything later except the web address, so pick one your families will remember. You'll see the monthly price and the free introductory period here, before you're asked for a card.
  4. Add a card. You're taken to Stripe's secure page to save a card. Nothing is charged today. The subscription is free during your introductory period; email, texts and storage are billed at cost from day one. Billing is monthly, for the month before.

When the card is saved, your troop is created and you're its admin. Tap Go to your troop and sign in there once with the same account.

If you stop partway

Come back to mytroop.org/start and sign in — you'll pick up at the step you left.

If something goes wrong

  • "We couldn't verify a card" — each signup gets a few card attempts. After that, email support@mytroop.org and we'll help.
  • "We're reviewing your signup" — on a very busy day we hold new troops for a quick review. Your card is saved and nothing is charged; we'll email you when your troop is ready, usually within a day.
  • "We're finishing setup" — your card is saved but something went wrong creating the troop. We've been alerted and will email you.

What to do first

Once you're in, start with adding your families and scouts, then put your first events on the calendar. See Your troop's MyTroop subscription and billing for what you'll be charged and how to manage your card.
