Waivers and disclaimers
Three options for the legal disclaimer attached to an RSVP, and how each behaves.
The disclaimer is a block of text shown to parents before they confirm an RSVP. They must check I agree before the RSVP is recorded — your event detail page stores who agreed and when.
The disclaimer section only appears when RSVPs are enabled.
The three options
- No disclaimer. No agreement required. Parents RSVP with one click.
- Use troop default. Reuses the rich-text block from Admin > Settings > Default Event Disclaimer. A preview is shown in the event form so you can see what families will agree to. This option is hidden if no troop default exists. See Default event disclaimer.
- Custom. Opens a rich-text editor for a per-event waiver. Use this for trips with specific risks (water activities, climbing, overnight camping) that go beyond your generic default.
Switching options
If you start with Custom, then switch to No disclaimer or back to Use troop default, your custom text is discarded. Save it elsewhere first if you want to reuse it.
If you turn Enable RSVP off after writing a disclaimer, the disclaimer is cleared too.
What's stored
For each RSVP that requires agreement, MyTroop records:
- The exact text of the disclaimer at the time of agreement.
- The user's name and the timestamp.
This means you have an audit trail even if the troop default changes later.
Format
The default and custom editors support bold, italic, lists, and links. Keep the formatting simple — most parents read this on their phone.
